Surfaces and Finishes
What is MEBAC?
MEBAC (Metal Bonded Anti-Slip Coating) is an IKG exclusive safety product. This coating can be applied to all IKG stock and fabricated grating surfaces and finishes. Made with abrasive grit particles encapsulated in a metal spray arc that is bonded to an aluminum or steel substrate, offering a consistently high coefficient of friction (minimum .60 C.O.F required by most municipalities) under a wide range of conditions.
What is GrateCoat?
Through a multi-million-dollar investment in powder coat technology, IKG is the first grating manufacturer to offer powder coat finish as a standard paint for bar grating. Our GrateCoat surfaces and finish are available in black and gray, or we can match a specific paint color.
The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles in GrateCoat adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces of the grating until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish.

Mill
For carbon steel grating, refers to the natural finish of carbon steel as it comes from the mill. Mill Finish is our standard stainless steel and aluminum grating finish. The welded stainless steel grating and the aluminum grating undergoes caustic cleaning after fabrication which causes discoloration of the finished product.
Galvanized
A galvanized steel finish is the best protection for corrosion resistance for steel grating because the zinc metallurgically bonds with the steel, creating a series of highly corrosion-resistant zinc-iron allow layers. IKG’s galvanized steel is galvanized per ASTM A-123 industry standard.
